Fees

Standard Case Review — £100 fixed fee

Suitable for straightforward matters requiring initial guidance and a clear plan of action. This includes a consultation of up to one hour, review of the key documents provided, an assessment of the legal and practical issues, and advice on the options available.

 

Complex Case Review — £200 fixed fee

Suitable for urgent, document-heavy or more complex matters involving multiple issues, substantial correspondence, medical or safeguarding evidence, court proceedings or detailed procedural questions.This includes a more extensive consultation and document review, preliminary research where required, identification of the principal issues, and a recommended strategy or action plan. We will confirm which fee applies before your appointment is booked.

 

Ongoing Legal Assistance — £60 per hour

Following the initial consultation, ongoing work is charged at £60 per hour, unless a fixed fee has been agreed.

This may include:

  • Reviewing correspondence, contracts, court papers, medical records and evidence

  • Legal and procedural research

  • Preparing chronologies, timelines and case summaries

  • Drafting letters, responses and formal representations

  • Preparing complaints, appeals and requests for review

  • Assisting with witness statements and position statements

  • Preparing settlement proposals

  • Organising evidence and hearing documents

  • Liaising with organisations on your behalf, where authorised

  • Negotiation, case planning and ongoing practical support

You will only be charged for work actually undertaken.

 

Letters, Complaints and Formal Documents

We can assist with:

  • Formal legal letters and letters before action

  • NHS and healthcare complaints

  • Complaints to local authorities and public bodies

  • Safeguarding referrals

  • Office of the Public Guardian referrals

  • Employment grievances and appeals

  • Housing and landlord-and-tenant correspondence

  • Consumer and contractual complaints

  • Subject Access Requests

  • Settlement proposals

  • Case summaries and chronologies

  • Position statements

  • Witness statement preparation

  • Responses to claims or allegations

Court and Tribunal Preparation — £60 per hour

We can assist with reviewing case papers, identifying the relevant issues, organising evidence, preparing chronologies, case summaries, speaking notes and questions, and explaining what to expect at the hearing.

 

Court Assistance and McKenzie Friend Support — £60 per hour

Where appropriate and legally permitted, we may attend court with you as a McKenzie Friend. Support may include organising documents, taking notes, helping you locate papers and providing quiet practical assistance during the hearing. A minimum two-hour booking will apply. Travel time, mileage, parking and other reasonable expenses will be agreed in advance. A McKenzie Friend does not automatically have the right to address the court or conduct litigation. Any additional permission is at the discretion of the court.

Mediation and Dispute Resolution

We offer mediation and facilitated negotiation for suitable neighbour, property, housing, employment, consumer, small-business and other civil disputes. Fees start from £75 per hour, with fixed-fee arrangements available where appropriate.

Fixed-Fee Work

Where the scope of the work can be clearly identified, we may offer a fixed fee for a specific letter, complaint, referral, chronology, document review, witness statement, settlement proposal or defined stage of case preparation. The work included and the fee payable will be confirmed in writing before we begin.

 

Home, Hospital and Remote Appointments

Appointments may be available at a client’s home, hospital, care setting or another suitable location where circumstances require this.

Remote appointments are also available by telephone or video call. Travel time, mileage, parking and other reasonable expenses may be charged and will always be agreed in advance.

 

Payment

Payment for an initial consultation or case review is required in advance to secure the appointment. For ongoing work, we may request payment on account before work begins. For larger matters, payments may be divided into agreed stages. No additional chargeable work will be undertaken without your authority, and work may be paused where payment remains outstanding. Payment can be made by bank transfer or another secure payment method confirmed when your appointment is arranged.

 

Cancellations

Appointments may be rearranged without charge where at least 24 hours’ notice is provided. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, may be charged in full. Exceptional circumstances will always be considered fairly.

 

Pro Bono and Reduced-Fee Assistance

A limited amount of time is reserved for pro bono and reduced-fee assistance for those facing exceptional hardship, serious vulnerability or a significant risk of injustice. Priority may be given to urgent safeguarding matters, vulnerable adults, children, people with disabilities and victims of abuse. Each request is considered individually and is subject to the nature of the matter and our available capacity. Pro bono or reduced-fee assistance cannot be guaranteed.
